A little about my cooking background: I started cooking when I was 3. The very first thing I ever made was scrambled eggs! I have been cooking ever since and love being in the kitchen. I did join the Navy at the age of 17 so I could be a navy chef. I took my job very seriously and was always looking for ways to improve my skills. I spent 8 years on Active Duty and 2 years in the Navy reserves as a Navy Chef and left with a Navy certification as a Sous Chef. I went to school as well while in the Navy to further my education and background. I took nutrition courses as well as advanced cooking classes.
When I left the Navy I continued my education at Florida Community College towards a degree in Dietetics. I did decide right before graduation with my AS to switch and receive my AA instead. The reason for my switch was that many schools would not accept the AS and if I wanted to pursue anything further I would have to do that. I did graduate with my AA in 2008. I have since started back to college at Florida State College of Jacksonville, but have decided to pursue Early Childhood Education at this time. I did this because FSCJ does now offer BS degrees, just not in Dietetics! I have also been teaching preschool for the last couple of years and have really enjoyed it, although, food is still always in the back of my mind.
I am a mom of three beautiful, yet busy children and strive to let them experience different flavors while cooking on a budget. My goal is to make the most nutritious meals I can that have lots of flavor and work with a busy schedule. I love to use my crock pot or make things that can be prepared ahead of time and thrown in the oven to be finished. I am also working on some freezer meals that can be prepared ahead of time and put in the freezer for easy dinners. I like to use fresh and natural ingredient and try to stay away from prepackaged stuff as much as possible. I also use a lot of whole wheat and whole grains whenever possible. I welcome you to add any suggestions, comments, or anything else to my blog! If you try a recipe let me know how it turns out!!!! If there is something you are looking for, let me know, I will see what I can come up with. I am no food expert, but I am what I consider a food-aholic!
